Smoking ban one step closer
Slave Lake Town council gave second reading to its new 100 per cent smoking ban by-law on Jan. 18. By not going directly to third reading council put off the ultimate decision for another month, but it looks as if the writing is on the wall.
Library merger proposal too costly
Three months ago, councillors from the Town of Slave Lake and the Municipal District of Lesser Slave River looked at a proposal to create a merged library at the Northern Lakes College. The new site would bring together the Slave Lake Municipal Library and the college library in one joint facility. Since then, nothing much has happened

Sports Highlights

Team skip Scott Tradewell throws a rock in a final match on day two of the Junior Bonspiel at the Slave Lake Curling Club on the weekend. Tradewell’s team went on to win 10-0 and claim top prize in division ‘A’. In all, seven teams of local youths competed.

Winterhawks make a case for first place
The Slave Lake Winterhawks did what they had to do on the weekend, which was earn four points in Hinton. That isn’t always easy to do against the Heat in their own barn, but the ‘Hawks got the job done 6 – 4 on Saturday and again 8 – 4 on Sunday.
Wolves two different teams - both lose
The Wolves played the Sexsmith Vipers twice on the weekend but it looked like two different teams. Saturday night the Vipers wore black and Sunday they wore red. Saturday they dominated, Sunday the Wolves outplayed them.
