Slave Lake, Alberta

Looking for Citizen of the Year nominations

Joe McWilliams
Lakeside Leader

It’s getting to be the time of year again where the community nominates candidates for Slave Lake’s Citizen of the Year. Jointly sponsored by the Slave Lake Native Friendship Centre and The Leader, the award is given out in April at the Friendship Centre’s annual volunteer appreciation dinner.
Who will it be this year? That depends on who gets nominated.
You’ll see ads in The Leader over the next few weeks soliciting those nominations. Please consider nominating someone who has contributed a lot to this community over the past year and possibly for many years.
Last year the winner was Ken Carpenter, who was cited for his contribution to many community projects over the years, including the community trails, baseball diamonds, beach cleaning and the Handi-bus fundraising campaign.
If you have someone in mind for this year’s (actually for the year 2004) award, write something up and drop it off at The Leader or the Friendship Centre.
