The Slave Lake Kodiaks are going to the provincial Sr. ‘B’ championships, after beating the Grande Prairie Aces on Sunday. They’ll compete with teams from around the province at Black Diamond, Mar. 11 – 13.
“That was probably one of the best we’ve played all year,” says Coach Chris Hatch. “We changed some things in practice this week and the girls stuck to them.”
The Kodiaks had the pressure on right from the start, peppering the Grande Prairie goalie with three shots to every one Christine Tanasiuk faced at the other end. But the Aces’ goalie wasn’t making it easy for them. She handled all the initial shots easily.
The first to solve her was Connie Schultz on a rebound. Allyson Bendfeld scored the next two and Ashley Kerr finished it off by whacking a loose puck in at the post.
Hatch predicts good things at provincials.
“I think we’ve got a really good shot at a medal,” he says.
