George Brown 2004 Citizen of the Year
Super volunteer George Brown is the 2004 Slave Lake Citizen of the Year. Brown received a plaque, flowers and the congratulations of a crowd of about 70 people at last Thursday’s volunteer appreciation banquet at the Slave Lake Native Friendship Centre.

Some groups to pay less for sports fields
The cost of running soccer and minor baseball will come down this year, thanks to a new user fee policy passed by Slave Lake Town council last week. The new fees – based on a per-hour formula – squeaked by in a 4 – 3 vote at council’s Apr. 19 meeting.

Walk for a cure May 28
Among all the nasty diseases for which no cure has been found, juvenile (Type I) diabetes may be the closest to being beaten. Right here in Alberta at the University of Alberta in recent years there have been big breakthroughs, and there is momentum and optimism evident.
