Ambulance board cuts director loose in cost-reduction measure
The Slave Lake Ambulance Service’s two-year experiment with an executive director is over. Thanks to a crippling budget deficit, the board that oversees the service decided not to renew the contract of ED Sandy Tobler, thus cutting its costs by a few tens of thousands of dollars.

Man arrested in firearm incident
No one was hurt in a firearm incident near Slave Lake on Apr. 28. But the man who pointed a gun at another man is in custody and facing serious charges.

Southshore league starts with five teams
Two Kinuso teams are out, but the Colts are back in. So the Southshore Men’s Baseball League has five teams for the 2005 season. Play starts Wed., May 25 at Charity Park in Slav e Lake.

Vanderwell team emerges victorious in logger sports
The logger sports competition on Apr. 30 had almost everything, but not quite. It didn’t have anybody recording the names of the individual event winners. Therefore we can only report the team results, with one exception.
