No one was hurt in a firearm incident near Slave Lake on Apr. 28. But the man who pointed a gun at another man is in custody and facing serious charges.
Police say the 46-year-old man “took aim” at another man outside a Mitsue residence. Another person – a family member – tackled him before he fired – if in fact he intended to fire the .22 rifle.
“During the struggle to regain control of the firearm, a single shot was fired into the air,” says the news release from RCMP Const. Ryan Howrish.
Howrish said the investigation revealed that the man assaulted another man who was working near his residence. After a short altercation he went into his residence and reappeared with the gun.
Police got the call about the incident at about 2:50 pm on Apr. 28. It was over when they got there and they arrested the 46-year-old man without incident.
He made his first appearance in Slave Lake Provincial Court on May 4. Judge Thomas Goodsonset the matter over for trial on Aug. 15.
