Vanderwell team victorious in logger sports

The logger sports competition on Apr. 30 had almost everything, but not quite. It didn’t have anybody recording the names of the individual event winners. Therefore we can only report the team results, with one exception.
Richard Chemago of Vanderwell Team #1 won the standing block chop for his team, after placing dead last in the Swede saw event. His first in the chop was the best result for his team in eight events. It didn’t, however, prevent them from finishing last with 26 points.
Vanderwell #2 ended up with first place honours, with 42 points, winning four of the eight events and finishing second in another. The mighty lumberjacks of V-2 won the accuracy saw, the bucking, the wajax and the obstacle course competitions.
In second place with 37 points was the Alberta Plywood #3 squad, which took top spot in the axe throw and the power saw events and placed respectably in four others. The only thing they weren’t good at was spraying water.
Alberta Plywood #2 came third, one point behind their colleagues and one point ahead of Tolko and Forestry (also known as SRD). The APL-2s had no firsts, but three seconds stood them in good stead – in axe throw, block chop and accuracy cutting.
Tolko had the distinction of staying out of the basement in all events, good for 35 points and a fourth place tie with SRD. Their best finishes were second in axe throw and bucking. SRD had a first in Swede saw and seconds in accuracy, wajax (figures) and obstacle course.
Alberta Plywood #1 finished with 27 points.
The Lesser Slave Forest Education Society, along with the Woodland Operations Learning Foundation, sponsored the logger sports competition, with plenty of help from the local forest products companies and other sponsors.
