Slave Lake Mayor Karina Pillay-Kinnee was one of the celebrity chefs who worked at the Slave Lake McDonald’s on McHappy Day on May 18. The restaurant donated part of the proceeds of every McHappy Meal sold to the building fund for the Ronald McDonald House in Calgary. With the mayor are McDonald’s employees Carla and Arlene.

Designated park land to be sold off
Slave Lake Town council voted at its May 17 meeting to sell off a parcel of municipal reserve land in the southwest part of town. Municipal reserve land is normally withheld from development for the purpose of creating parks or schools.

You'll pay for false alarms
A new false alarm by-law will penalize repeat offenders. Slave Lake Town council passed the new by-law unanimously at its May 17 meeting, paving the way for police to write tickets to those businesses or residences responsible for more than one false alarm per year.

Martial arts students fare well at provincials
Tae kwon do students from Slave Lake competed and did well at the Alberta Junior Provincials in Edmonton on May 14. Their medal haul included four gold, three silver and 10 bronze.

Sharks begin another competitive season
Watch out for sharks in the pool this summer. The Sharks Swim Club has started practising at the Northern Lights Aquatic Centre for competitive meets, says Nadine Verschoor, president of the club.
