Tolko announces mill construction
Tolko Industries Ltd. will break ground on its new $200 million Slave Lake oriented strandboard mill this fall. Construction, according to a company news release, will commence in the spring of 2006.

Town names new manager
Slave Lake has a new town manager – or will when she gets here from Hinton. The successful applicant to replace the long-departed Jay Simons is Betty Osmond, currently the Director of Community Services for the town of Hinton.

Danielle Tkach of Canyon Creek, right, bears down at a lumberjack and jill crosscut saw event in Williams Lake, B.C. last fall with her partner Karl Bischoff. She finished first overall at the competition, and will represent Canada at an international logger sports festival in Florida next month.

Canyon Creek lumberjill Danielle Tkach improves her ranking
Danielle Tkach of Canyon Creek has competed in the top levels of logger sports for the past few years. She travels to competitions all over Canada and the United States, competing in such events as log sawing, block chopping and axe throwing.

Sharks bite competition in Fairview
Ten Slave Lake swimmers traveled to Fairview On June 18, 2005. Once again all swimmers came home with at least one individual ribbon.
