Town names new manager

Slave Lake has a new town manager – or will when she gets here from Hinton. The successful applicant to replace the long-departed Jay Simons is Betty Osmond, currently the Director of Community Services for the town of Hinton.
“Ms. Osmond comes to us with many years of municipal experience in growing communities,” says a news release from the Town of Slave Lake.
Osmond is expected to assume her new duties at the end of the summer, when she will move to town with her husband and daughter.
Since Simons left last September, Fire chief Greg Gramiak has been acting chief administrative officer for the Town.
Osmond’s boss in Hinton, Bernie Kreiner, told The Leader last week that he’s sorry to be losing her. The former Slave Lake Town manager said Osmond is a very capable, good community person.
“I think you guys will be very pleased.”
Osmond has worked 12 years for the Town of Hinton, and had worked previously for the City Ft. McMurray. According to Slave Lake Mayor Karina Pillay-Kinnee, she oversees a staff of 39, more than the entire Slave Lake Town workforce.
“This is something I’ve wanted to do,” Osmond told The Leader in a telephone interview.
Council interviewed three people for the job. Osmond will be the first woman to hold the position.
