Corporate challenge the biggest, best ever

The sixth annual Community Corporate Challenge was unlike its predecessors in a number of ways. It happened later, for one thing. For another, there was a record number of teams at 15.
Only eight of those won at least one of the 14 individual events. The St. Mary Huskies and the Cadastral Group each won three events. ATB Financial and Northern Lakes College each won a pair, leaving one each for the Scotianators, Royal Bank, the Agitators of Nordic Repair and Tolko.
But you didn’t need to win an event to do well. The Town of Slave Lake proved that, finishing in a tie for third place overall with Tolko and ATB Financial. Tied for second were the Cadastral Group and the Scotianators. Winning first place overall for the first time were the Huskies of St. Mary of the Lake School.
“It was the best ever,” says organizer Karina Pillay-Kinnee of the Slave Lake Adult Education Committee. “And the most ever. We had 270 participants. It generated a lot of spirit in the community.”
Here are the individual event winners:
The Cadastral Group and Northern Lakes College tied for top spot in the detective challenge, in which teams had to follow clues to find three hidden keys. The two teams each recovered one key; nobody found the third one.
ATB Financial won the amazing race. St. Mary Huskies won the movie trivia challenge. The laser tag challenge went to the Scotianators of Scotiabank.
Wednesday night foosball fell to the Northern Lakes College team, which it usually does. The Huskies roared back to take the pictionary challenge. Meanwhile, the Agitators won the bocce ball competition on the lawn outside The Point. And in the water? It was ATB financial paddling the quickest canoe.
Cadastral group won the art challenge for the second year in a row, depicting Michelangelo’s ‘The Creation of Man’ in fine style. The Royal Bank entered the winners’ circle on Thursday night in the dodgeball challenge.
Friday night’s airband challenge went to the St. Mary Huskies, with their interpretation of the song ‘Lady Marmalade.’
Nobody dominated the three-event cook-off. Tolko’s offering was named best bread, Cadastral had the best stew and the best dessert belonged to Northern Lakes College.
As always participants got to chow down on the delicious grub after the show was over.
In addition to the overall victory, St. Mary of the Lake won the best team spirit award, as voted by the team captains.
