Crews ‘broke through’ the final barrier, creating one very large room on the lower floor of Slave Lake Plaza Friday. The space previously filled by Special Moments Flowers and Gifts was the last to go, and workers from that shop feign anger as those employed by The Brick complete the arduous task. Manager Gerry Allarie says the former walls will be moved to the outside of the mall, fillingin spaces previously covered by windows. He expects new store to open sometime in October.

Sewer on line in August
Sewer lines serving property owners in Canyon Creek will be ready for the commissioning of the waste water treatment plant by the end of August, says the Municipal District of Lesser Slave River’s director of operations, George Snider. “As of last week we had eight service lines in and we have two drilling crews out there working pretty steady now,” he says.

Race on to fill staff rosters
With a new commercial subdivision and three or four so-called ‘big box’ stores expected to open in Slave Lake this fall, some businesses are wondering how and from where they’ll attract the necessary employees. But the manager for at least one of those stores isn’t worried that he could be fishing from a limited employee pond.
