RCMP Const. Steve Gray helps firefighters spin a truck around on Hwy. 88 last Thursday morning after emergency personnel had extricated the driver. The Slave Lake area resident suffered undetermined injuries. The single vehicle accident happened just before 9:00 a.m.

RCMP need more officers, new building
Slave Lake’s RCMP detachment is understaffed and short of space. Two new officers and a new, or renovated building should fix the problem, Slave Lake Town council heard at its Aug. 2 meeting.

Tolko chooses new mill site
Tolko Industries’ new Slave Lake oriented strandboard mill site will be closer to home than some (including this newspaper) expected. The new location is just five kilometres east of the company’s existing mill in the Mitsue Industrial Park.

Exact Cardinals win bronze at World Masters
As reported in last week’s Leader, the Exact Oilfield Cardinals of Slave Lake were 4 – 1 in World Masters Games 45-and-over competition. By now everybody knows they went on to win the bronze medal, but as Paul Harvey likes to say: here’s the rest of the story, for the record.

Men's league final set for Aug. 10
It was a beautiful night for baseball last Wednesday, but a bit more beautiful for the men’s league winners. The Boss Pressure Red Sox and Slave Lake Cardinals advanced to this Wednesday’s final by winning their semi-final games.
