Family members looked on as friends and teammates took turns carrying Ken Olson for one last trip around the bases of his home baseball diamond, following an emotional funeral service Friday afternoon. The service — that attracted hundreds and filled the Southshore Community Complex in Wagner to overflow — included a poem from his daughter and tributes from countless teammates and friends.

Councillor loved to play minor baseball
Ken Olson, a municipal district councillor and minor league baseball player, died last week of heart disease. He was 62.
New garbage by-law bites the dust
It’s business as usual for garbage collection in Slave Lake for the time being. Slave Lake Town council defeated the new Solid Waste Collection and Disposal By-law by a 4 – 2 vote last Tuesday, sending it back to the drawing board.

A new name has risen to the extreme top of the heap at the Oilmen’s golf world after officials tallied the results at the Gilwood Golf and Country Club Saturday evening.
Local swimmer wins provincial award
Every year Synchro Alberta Selects one athlete from the Wildrose Stream
(tier 1-5) to be awarded athlete of the year. There are hundreds of candidates and for the second time an athlete from the Slave lake Indicas Synchronized Swim Club was selected.
