Anti-smoking group to Town: we're watching
Sept. 1 was the day Slave Lake’s new smoking by-law came into effect. The precise (or even approximate) rate of compliance is hard to measure, and the Town is not in a good position to enforce it, having recently lost its only by-law officer.

The Slave Lake Strikers hosted a soccer tournament on Aug. 27 and showed fine team spirit for this photo, in spite of a 1 - 2 record on the day. A team from Athabasca won the tournament.

Wolves' training camp starts this week
Forget summer, the Wolves are on the ice. As of this week, hopefuls for the Jr. ‘B’ hockey team hit the rink for evening skates, in preparation for a season that begins in the first week of October.
Winterhawks face stiffer competition this season
Suddenly, the North Central Hockey League is the place to play. The league that produced last season’s provincial ‘A’ champion jumped from five to nine teams over the summer, and looks to be highly competitive for 05/06.
The Athabasca Internazionale won a soccer tournament hosted by the Slave Lake Strikers, the local adult soccer team. The Strikers managed one win in three games in the Aug. 26 tournament, played at the Northern Lakes College field.
