Last week was what a lot of Slave Lakers call ‘the best time of the year’ and one reason is because of bright sunshine and fall colours. This mountain ash was captured in late afternoon in the southeast part of Slave Lake.

By-election for M.D. #124 council
Voters in the Municipal District of Lesser Slave River will be choosing a new councillor on Oct. 17 in a bi-election to fill a council seat left vacant after Councillor Ken Olson passed away last month.
Commercial fishing returns to Fawcett Lake
The construction bug has bitten Slave Lake. Figures presented to Town council last week show a big jump in activity in three of the four major categories of buildings over 2004.

Winterhawks name new coach
After leading the Slave Lake Winterhawks to the promised land of a provincial championship last season, head coach Chris Hatch moved on, leaving a big gap on the bench. Stepping in to fill it is Pat McGill, the Kal Tire manager and a fellow with a long history in hockey.
Wolves open at home this weekend
It’s opening weekend for the Slave Lake Jr. ‘B’ Wolves. They hit the ice Saturday night and Sunday afternoon against the Dawson Creek Jr. Canucks.
