Wolves open at home this weekend

It’s opening weekend for the Slave Lake Jr. ‘B’ Wolves. They hit the ice Saturday night and Sunday afternoon against the Dawson Creek Jr. Canucks.
“We had some great games against them last year,” says coach Kevin Imrie.
Sheldon Lamouche will probably be the starting goalie for the Wolves. After him it’s anybody’s guess.
“We’re still looking for a good backup goaltender,” says Wolves’ manager Wayne Sarginson.
The same could be said for players at all positions, and that won’t change for some time yet as recruiting efforts continue.
Imrie says the core group of players of the team have been established, “and from there wer’e trying to fill out the team with some experienced players. If we find a few players that can help,” he says, “it puts the internal pressure on to make everybody better.”
As of last week there were four rookies still in camp – Chad Paulson from Slave Lake, Nathan Wilkinson from Kinuso, Julian Laboucan from Wabasca and Waylon Jackops from Calling Lake.
Not a rookie, but also from Calling Lake, is defenceman Sheldon Young. Young made a good impression last year on a Wolves team that struggled to win games. Sarginson says Young has moved to town and is working, so that’s good news for the team.
Joining him on the blueline for another season are Josh Imrie, Gregg Whitney and Kiel Ching. Third-year man Al Beaulac has been playing the point as well in camp, after two years of toiling at forward.
One thing’s for sure about the new season – the Wolves won’t be finishing behind Moberly Lake. The Icemen are taking a year of absence to reorganize.
The Wolves were still in need of a trainer as of last week.
