Coffee house for Katrina. That’s right, you heard it here first. Some folks are putting their charitable impulses into action and putting on a musical evening fundraiser for hurricane victims down on the U.S. gulf coast.
“It’ll be local talent,” says Marcus Swift, one of the organizers. Easy listening – a relaxed atmosphere.”
The line-up of performers hadn’t been firmed up as of press time, but Swift knew for sure that he’d be doing a few tunes, as would Donna Moore, and probably Darrel Lund’s band.
“Donna’s an amazing singer,” he says.
It’s all happening at the Community Christian Centre on 6th St. in southeast Slave Lake, on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 7:00 p.m. Bring a donation for the cause.

Congratulations to the local organizers of the lake management workshop held here last Friday and Saturday. Judging by the turnout at Thursday night’s wine and cheese reception, the 100-odd participants were in the mood for networking.

Francesco Marchet of Fish & Wildlife tells us a bear was feasting on garbage in the alley behind 6th Ave. S.E. last Wednesday. This was probably the same bear that was on the trail behind Michener School Tuesday night. It was doped and removed.

We didn’t have room for this elsewhere, but Lori Anderson tells us she’s hosting a Breastfeeding Free Information and Fun Day for pregnant women and breastfeeding moms at Slave Lake’s health complex next Wednesday, Oct. 5, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. There’ll be prizes, info, food and fun. 805-3563.
