Const. Jean S. Giroux of the Slave Lake RCMP detachment lays a wreath at the Slave Lake cenotaph during the Nov. 11 Remembrance Day ceremonies. A large crowd showed up to honour Canada’s war dead, observing the traditional moment of silence before moving indoors. For the first time the indoor ceremonies were held in the E.G. Wahlstrom School gym instead of the Legion hall, in order to accommodate the crowd.

There are many signs that indicate Slave Lake is beginning to resemble much larger urban centres. A growing population, a modern business park complete with requisite Wal-Mart, and now, murder.

The Slave Lake Wolves played a dandy period of hockey on Sunday against the Peace River Navigators. It was the kind of hockey they’ve showed at times this season in giving better teams a good scare and it happened again.
Winterhawks clobber Hinton Heat
Scott Lawrence, Ryan Dierker and Brent Hill each scored a hat trick as the undefeated Slave Lake Winterhawks cruised to a 12 – 1 victory over the visiting Hinton Heat on Nov. 12. The absence of several players didn’t seem to affect the ‘Hawks’ attack at all in earning their sixth straight victory and second over the Heat by 10 goals or more.
