Slave Lake, Alberta

Dialysis clinic on schedule, says RHA

Slave Lakers will not have to travel to Westlock for dialysis treatment this winter, says a regional health authority spokesperson.
Debbie Pall, an assistant to Aspen RHA CEO Bob Cable, says that contrary to what some people are saying, the Slave Lake dialysis unit project is on schedule.
“It is not behind schedule,” says Pall. “This project needs to be up to code. It’s a Northern Renal Program and a Capital Health project. It will be up and running in December.”
The project experienced some short delays that can be attributed mainly to the cost of doing business in a northern town.
“Contractors cost more up here,” says Pall. “The contractors wanted more money and we had to ask for more from Infrastructure.”
The dialysis unit has been a long time coming - too long for some people who have been making the trip to Westlock two or three times a week for treatment (see Letters to the Editor on Pg. 6 of the Nov. 9 Lakeside Leader).
