Winterhawk 10 win on the road

The Slave Lake Winterhawks played with fire on the weekend, but didn’t get burned. Carrying only 10 players on a road trip to Fox Creek, they beat the Bandits 8 – 3.
Five first-period goals set things up nicely for the visitors. After that they somehow managed to avoid getting worn down and overwhelmed, despite having just two lines.
“It’s that time of year,” says coach Pat McGill. “Christmas parties and blah, blah, blah.”
The guys who did show up, however, “played really well in the first and third. We didn’t play that well in the second.”
Chad Anderson, Brent Blachford, Kyle Hansen, Scott Lawrence and Blachford again did the first period scoring. Fox Creek only managed one against Calvin Beauchamp, the Slave Lake goalie.
The Bandits got the only goal of the second period to make it 5 – 2.
The ‘Hawks wrapped the game up in the third with goals by Adam Ching and two by Jesse Holloway.
McGill is expecting a better turnout this Saturday when the Lamont Bruins come to town. Lamont is the only team to have defeated the Winterhawks this season – that being a 7 – 6 overtime loss in Lamont a couple of weeks ago.
“We’re looking forward to that,” says McGill.
