Gas prices drop but for how long?
A story appeared in the Nov. 30 edition of The Leader that examined the discrepancies in the cost of a litre of gas between Slave Lake and other not so distant communities. In that story, Esso spokesperson Pius Rolheiser said stations that sell more product can afford to offer it for less, thus explaining why gas costs less in Athabasca. He said that Slave Lake’s greater distance from Edmonton refineries would also play a role in determining the pump price.

Police arrest Slave Lake man in Grande Prairie murder
A Slave Lake man faces manslaughter charges in the Dec. 14 death of a 34-year-old woman in Grande Prairie. Slave Lake RCMP arrested Darrell Lee Ward, 32, in Slave Lake the day after the incident.

Winterhawks pound opponents
The Fox Creek Bandits’ only penalty in their game against the Winterhawks on Dec. 17 was for too many men. That was on the ice, midway through the second period.

Wolves lose here, then lose there
Two home wins in a row against Peace River might have been a bit much to expect from the Slave Lake Wolves. But as it turned out, they put up a good fight against the talented Navigators on Dec. 17, losing 4 – 1 on a couple of late goals.
