CN pays $18.6 million for Chisholm fire
Canadian National Railway is going to pay up for starting the 2001 Chisholm fire. Last week, the Alberta Government announced an $18.6 million settlement between itself and CN, which had been blamed for starting the devastating blaze that destroyed thousands of hectares of timber as well as several homes in the hamlet of Chisholm.
Court gives conditional discharge to RCMP officer in firearm incident
Christian Leigh Currie, 33, pleaded guilty to possession of a weapon and careless use of a firearm in Slave Lake Provincial Court on Jan. 11, 2006.

Winterhawks roll
Mark up another four points for Slave Lake’s Senior hockey team. On Saturday they beat the Jasper Wolves 15 – 2 and on Sunday they handed the Edson Ice a 10 – 4 defeat.
Hard times for Wolves
The Slave Lake Wolves “played their hearts out” on Friday in Sexsmith, according to team manager Wayne Sarginson. That’s the good news.
