A vacuum truck crew was just finishing up its work at the methanol spill on Eating Creek east of Slave Lake at about 11:00 a.m. on Jan. 18. The accident that caused the tanker truck to leave the highway happened at about 1:30 a.m.

Four dead after stolen truck crashes while evading police
A woman and her three daughters are dead following a tragic motor vehicle crash near Widewater, approximately 10 kms. west of Slave Lake. The crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Friday, January 20.
Methanol spills into Eating Creek after highway crash
Careless driving was apparently the cause of a Jan. 18 crash that resulted in a tanker truck leaking toxic methanol onto Eating Creek, about eight kilometres east of Slave Lake.

Winterhawks clinch first place
The Slave Lake Winterhawks wrapped up home ice advantage throughout the playoffs with a win over the Fox Creek Bandits in Fox Creek on Saturday. The 10-5 victory put them eight points up on the Lamont Bruins in the North Division of the league, and also well ahead of any of the South Division teams.
Wayne Bacon third at Zamboni Olympics
Wayne Bacon, the Slave Lake Zamboni driver, was in for a shock when he attended the Edmonton Oilers’ Zamboni Olympics on Jan. 16. The competition was nothing like the one he’d participated in five years earlier in Calgary.
