We're willing to pay more for recycling
Up to 75 per cent of Slave Lake’s household waste could be diverted from the landfill if we really got serious about it. What it would take, environmental consultant Kirstin Castro-Wunsch told Slave Lake Town Council at its Feb. 28 meeting, is a five-year plan, starting with curbside bag limits.

M.D. looks at Old Town lots
The Municipal District of Lesser Slave River will continue its efforts to purchase property in Old Town Slave Lake as it comes up for sale. The M.D. council decided to do that on three recently listed lots, in spite of reservations expressed by some councillors at a Feb. 22 meeting.

Rainbow Lake team wins Oilmen's
A young team from Rainbow Lake swept down from the north to win the 42nd annual Oilmen’s Bonspiel. The Flint #1 crew, skipped by Chad Doepker, beat Klaus Enterprises of Sherwood Park 7 - 4 in the ‘A’ final to become the only undefeated team in the tournament.

Jr. Winterhawks win first round playoff series
Slave Lake’s winningest minor hockey team won its opening playoff series on the weekend. The Pee Wee ‘B’ Junior Winterhawks beat Barrhead by an 8 - 1 score and then tied 6 - 6 in Barrhead on Sunday. That gave them the two-game, total-goal victory by seven goals.
