This was one of several accidents that happened near Slave Lake last Thursday and Friday as winter snowstorms hammered the region, although human error may or may not have been a factor in each. It happened just south if the Hwy #2 and #44 intersection, where another rollover occurred earlier in the day. Friday morning a log truck and a car collided near Widerwater, sending the driver of the car to hospital.

Council disagrees on quad question
When it comes to what Slave Lake Town Council might have said to the RCMP about all terrain vehicle use in town, councillors have different opinions and remember different things. Some say council never asked the police to crack down on quad use in town. Others seem to think council did exactly that. The police seem to share the latter view.
Trailer destroyed in north end fire
A mobile home on 6th Ave. NE in Slave Lake was completely gutted by fire on Mar. 4. Jamie Coutts is the deputy fire chief of the Slave Lake Fire Hall and he said members of his hall were on the scene by 3:30 a.m.

Locals win medals at Arctic Winter Games
Nikki St. Martin was a big winner again at the Arctic Winter Games in the Inuit Games competition. The 16-year-old from Widewater won gold, silver and bronze in three events, good enough for another gold medal as the best all-round female athlete in the event. She had won the same medal at the 2004 Games in Ft. McMurray.
Winterhawks rise to occasion
The Slave Lake Winterhawks are a game away from winning the North Central Hockey League championship, after two wins over Drayton Valley on the weekend. On Saturday they cleaned up 7 – 1; on Sunday they broke out in the third period to win 8 – 5, in what might be described as a chippy affair.
