Rampant vandalism forces fences to go up
The Southshore Complex in Widewater is a popular location for weddings and family reunions. It’s also a popular place for young rowdies on motorized vehicles to tear around making a nuisance of themselves. The two don’t mix and that’s one reason why you’ll see a strong fence being constructed around the perimeter of the complex.

Chamber of Commerce hands out annual awards
Citing its record of service to the community, the Slave Lake & District Chamber of Commerce has named Boston Pizza its Business of the Year for 2005. Also recognized at the Mar. 10 ceremony were the Employee of the Year and Employer of the Year.

Winterhawks claim league championship
For the second year in a row the Slave Lake Winterhawks beat the Drayton Valley Wildcats to become champions of the North Central Hockey League. It happened on Saturday in Drayton Valley, with a 5 – 4 victory.

Boxers win in Peace River
Slave Lake boxers went three and one at a card in Peace River on Mar. 18, continuing what looks to be a promising season for a group of new fighters. Tyral Tanghe, Dustin Pawliw and Krystal Schmidt were winners, while Jesse Schmidt lost a split decision.
