M.D. budget: taxes up for industry, otherwise not
Industrial ratepayers in the Municipal District of Lesser Slave River will feel a bit more of a tax bite this year, but it’s status quo for other property owners. The M.D. council approved a balanced budget late last month that sees an industrial mill rate increase of 7.4 per cent, or .57 of a mill.
Edmonton man dies in Hwy. 88 rollover
An Edmonton man died on Mar. 29 when he was thrown from a vehicle on Hwy. 88 north of Slave Lake. The driver of the vehicle suffered only minor injuries.

No repeat for Winterhawks
The Winterhawks’ run as provincial Senior ‘A’ champions is over. It came to a screeching halt at the provincial tournament in Grande Prairie on Saturday, when the Spirit River Rangers stopped the defending champs 5 – 2.
Ex-Slave Laker running marathons at 61
Sixty-one years might seem pretty old to be running marathons, but don’t tell that to Doug Pierce. The B.C. man and former Slave Lake and Canyon Creek resident will point to his two 80-year-old buddies, with whom he runs in the Hawaii Marathon every year.
