Local man found dead
Slave Lake resident William Lawrence was found dead approximately 33 kms northeast of Smith on May 10.
It’s a record! Lake ice was out on May 1
Back in 1930, north shore homesteader Reinhold Eben-Ebenau started recording the date that the ice left Lesser Slave Lake each spring. Most years, as everyone around here knows, it hangs around at least a couple of weeks into May, sometimes longer.

Kickboxing lives in Slave Lake
It may not be very well known, but kickboxing is alive and well in Slave Lake. Since last October, instructor Ray Brown has been teaching the martial art in the Astrum Fitness gym, once a week to anyone interested.
Seven gold medals for tae kwon do team in Calgary
Slave Lake martial artists showed some grit in an international tournament in Calgary recently. Up against competitors from five nations, they held their own and won seven individual gold medals, along with 11 silvers and 11 bronzes.
