Gerard Delrosario of St. Mary of the Lake School tries his hand with a welding torch (or is it arc welding?) in the Alberta Job Corps shop last week. Job Corps staff hosted dozens of students from area schools over three days last week in an effort to introduce them to the trades, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry and others.

Somebody took vandalism to a new level in Slave Lake last week, destroying expensive fencing at the slowpitch diamonds on the west side of town. The Town’s Director of Community Services Karl Hill says the Town will have to pay to get it fixed, but isn’t sure when or how much it will cost.
“Eventually it has to come out of taxpayers’ pockets,” he says.
The Leader was unable to reach anyone from the slowpitch association for comment last week.

Men’s, Ladies’, Junior, Senior programs kick off at Gilwood
The first Junior Night of the golf season took place at Gilwood Golf Club on Monday, May 15. Twenty young golfers took part, with the winners as follows:
Five achieve black belt status
Slave Lake martial artists showed some grit in an international tournament in Calgary recently. Up against competitors from five nations, they held their own and won seven individual gold medals, along with 11 silvers and 11 bronzes.
