The ribbon cutting and official opening would come later, but at a salute to builders, architects, department reps and community volunteers last week, members of the Lesser Slaver Lake Bird Observatory unveiled a new stewardship award, naming long-time promoters and volunteers Bob Deacon and Ronda Groom as the first recipients of the award. Making the presentation, Parks promotional person June Markwart applauded the couple for volunteering countless hours, days, weeks, months and years toward ensuring the Boreal Centre for Bird Conservation would become a reality.
