Tracy Persson has reached one of her goals. The former Slave Lake resident jumped on her bicycle in Grande Prairie and pedaled all the way to Ottawa (she arrived last week) to raise money for the charities Habitat for Humanity and Beyond Borders. The former builds homes for deserving familes in need, the latter protects children against abuse and exploitation.
Persson hoped to raise $150,000 and succeeded in raising $37,091 (as of last week). She is encouraging people to continue to donate to these worthwhile causes.
“The chance to give isn’t done,” says Persson on her website cycle4kindess.com.

This little item was inadvertently squeezed out of the news pages, but was so important we decided to sneak it onto The Page.
We’re told getting Aboriginal business connected with job opportunities in the region will be the focus of a business mixer late next month.
Fred Auger from the local Apeetogosan office says he’s inviting Aboriginal businesses to come hear about the expansion of Tolko Industries and the job prospects that exist for contractors in the area.
“I’m just trying to get the word out, let these businesses know about what’s out there for them,” Auger told The Leader last week.
The meeting will take place June 28, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Slave Lake Native Friendship Centre.

Fred also reminded us that the RCMP will escort hundreds of students as well as businesspeople and elders when they take to the streets June 21 to commemorate National Aboriginal Day. He adds that there’ll also be some entertainment at Schurter Park on 3rd Ave. N.E. For much of the afternoon -- hotdogs, too, we think, so we’ll definitely see you there!!!

Congrats, Bob and Ronda for the most-deserved award that you received last Friday. It in no way makes up for the time commitment, but it’s a start!!!
