Tiger Calcium burns
The Slave Lake fire department was called to a fire at Tiger Calcium’s Mitsue operation last Monday morning. Fire fighters rolled quickly in response but soon realized that this was no small task.

Forest fires flare up, subside
The past week came in like a lion, but went out like a lamb, as far as forest fires were concerned. All was quiet on the western front Monday morning as a gentle rain over 90 per cent of the Slave Lake district.

Strathcona mops up competition in ball tournament
The Strathcona Athletics didn’t have much trouble with the opposition in the Riverboat Daze baseball tournament. The squad of young men from the Edmonton area clobbered the two local and one Wabasca team by a combined score of 45 - 8.

Cardinals in top spot
The Slave Lake Cardinals found themselves in relatively unfamiliar territory as the men’s baseball regular season closed last week. Thanks to a 7 - 0 default win over the Wabasca Indians, they ended up in first place, with a better runs for and against record than the Boss Pressure Red Sox. The Cards scored 20 more than they allowed, while the Sox were only a dozen to the good.
