A member of the Sandpipers sand sculpture team puts the finishing touches on one hand of the team’s giant jester figure during the Alberta Open Sand Sculpture championships at Devonshire Beach on Saturday. A huge crowd of people showed up to watch the sculptures take form over five hours. The Sandpipers won the $3,000 first prize.

Logger sports competitor back in the swing
Danielle Tkach, the lumberjill of Canyon Creek, was back in action July 1 at a logger sports competition in Celista, B.C. Competing alone and in partnership with her husband Todd, she came home with one first, one second, one fourth and one fifth place finish.
Sharks compete in High Prairie meet
Slave Lake’s summer swim team put in another good showing at a recent meet. Twenty-one swimmers competed against 148 others in High Prairie on July 8, bringing home seven aggregate medals.
