The Boss Pressure Red Sox took a step towards retaining their Southshore Men’s Baseball League title last week. In the first game of the best-of-five championship series, the Sox beat the Slave Lake Cardinals by an 8 – 5 score.
The Red Sox got off to a fast start, going up 5 – 0 after three innings. Three of those came their first time at bat, facing Cardinals’ pitcher Brad Sinclair. They picked up two more in the third inning.
Red Sox pitcher Cody May, meanwhile, baffled the Cardinals’ hitters for the first two innings. They got some balls deep, but it seemed they were always within reach of an outfielder, and the Sox fielders made no mistakes.
The Cardinals finally got to May in the third inning with four runs, off big hits by Blair Sinclair and Cody Sinclair.
The Cardinals went on to tie the game at five in the fourth. In the top of the fifth the Sox went back up by one.
Trevor Vance came on to pitch the rest of the game for the Red Sox and held the Cardinals off. He got the win as the Sox scored two more in their last at bat to win 8 – 5. Sinclair tossed the whole game for the Cardinals.
Cody May carried a hot stick – he went four-for-four at the plate and scored three runs. Curtis Poitras also had a good game at bat for the Red Sox, driving in three.
The series resumes this week with games Tuesday and Wednesday at Charity Park.
