Town agrees in principle to buy Sawridge mall site for $1 million
The Town of Slave Lake has agreed in principle to buy half the Sawridge Mall property for just over a million dollars. Erecting a government building and library on that spot is expected to cost about $18 or $19 million more, and Town council started the process of borrowing the money for it at a special meeting last week.

Three-fish limit can't last
It was a heady year for anglers on Lesser Slave Lake. They came in droves for the unexpectedly generous three-walleye limit, and were not disappointed. But it isn’t going to last.

Gordie Ferguson of the Slave Lake Strikers boots a penalty kick in a game against Peace River during the Strikers’ tournament on Aug. 26. They lost the game 4 - 2, having lost earlier 5 – 3 to Athabasca. Peace River won the tournament in a 2 – 0 game over Athabasca.

Things are starting to move in Jr. ‘B’ hockey circles, and not a moment too soon. The Wolves start their Northwest Jr. Hockey League season on Sept. 30, about 3 ½ weeks from now.

Curling club facing bleak future
The Slave Lake Curling Club has been in operation for nearly 50 years and former club president Chris Jones can’t remember a time when there wasn’t any ice. Well, for everything there is a first time. The club has nobody making ice for the 2006-07 season.
