Judging by the fat red apples growing in yards around town, it has been an unusual good year for fruit. These ones are (or were) growing in the yard of the Prairie Creek Bed & Breakfast in southeast Slave Lake.

'Outsider' Hopfe taking a run at Bigstone council
Ian Hopfe is well known to election followers in the area. He’s run federally and provincially for the Green Party more than once. Now the Wabasca businessman, computer technician and environmentalist is trying for a spot on the Bigstone Cree Nation council.
Truckers jumpy about M.D. noise by-law
Truckers who park their rigs at home don’t like what they’re hearing about M.D. #124’s proposed noise by-law. They showed up in force at M.D. Council’s Sept. 14 meeting to let council know exactly how they feel.

Building better bodies by boxing
Looking for a way to get in shape and take out your frustrations? Lee Tanghe of the Slave Lake Boxing Club may has the answer you week. The 2006-07 boxing season has just begun and he is encouraging people of all fitness and skills levels to come down and try their hands at boxing.
Winterhawks start skating this week
The Slave Lake Winterhawks start getting the rust off this week with what their new vice president calls “a couple of leisurely skates.” The practicing starts for real next week, on the 27th. It continues on Wednesdays thereafter up to their first league game on Oct. 21.
