'Shell shock' still a few years away
Yes, the oil company Shell (under another name) is looking into large-scale heavy oil extraction north of Wabasca. No, they probably won’t undertake anything major before the end of the decade.
Oberg likes pavement for Hwy. 88
When it comes to roads, Dr. Lyle Oberg told Slave Lake Town council last week, the province isn’t doing enough. The former Minister of Infrastructure and Transportation and current PC leadership contender said he thinks Hwy. 88 should be paved, and that an east-west connector road across the north should go ahead.

Wolves work hard, lose two games
People who showed up to the Slave Lake Wolves’ first two games of the 2006/07 season didn’t know they’d see a parade. All that was missing was the bagpipers and antique cars.
Gilwood: not a bad start for new nine holes
Business was up at Slave Lake’s Gilwood Golf Club this year. Whether that was due to nine new holes to play on, or great weather, or the general busy-ness of the area is not clear. But it was a pretty good year.
