Truck, train collide in town

The good news about an Oct. 4 collision between a transport truck and a train is that it could have been much, much worse. No one was injured when a CN train clipped the back corner of the rear trailer of a truck at the Caribou Trail crossing in Slave Lake.
According to a release from the Slave Lake RCMP, the collision happened at 4:00 p.m., when a truck pulling two trailers loaded with wood crossed the tracks heading north.
“The semi failed to proceed safely through the train crossing and the passenger side corner of the rear trailer was struck by the train,” says the release. “The load on the rear trailer was partially spilled.”
Damage to the truck was slight, and the intersection was cleared in less than an hour.
Police charged the driver, a 27-year-old man from St. Peter’s Bay, Prince Edward Island, with failing to proceed safely through a railway crossing after stopping.
Alcohol was not a factor in the collision, say police.
