The Slave Lake Regional Library Board’s murder mystery was another big hit with the audience this year. Performed between courses of a roast pork dinner at the Northwest Inn on Sept. 30, the play ‘Shelved’ delivered one dead bus superintendent and plenty of red herrings.
Nevertheless, several people figured out that it was Marion the Librarian (Line LaFlamme) who had knocked off poor Roger Miller (Glenn Allan). She did it by means of poisoned dental floss. Motive wasn’t hard to figure out – she hated his proposal to move the library into a fleet of school buses.
About 120 people turned out to see the 14th annual murder mystery, which is the library’s principal fundraiser of the year. Librarian Lori Herdzik (who also played the waffling Town Councillor Fiona MacGregor) says the event raised approximately $2,000 for library operations, and a good time was had by all.
“People really enjoyed it,” she says. “I’m still hearing about it.”
The play was written by Slave Lake’s own Crime By Design.
