Ambulance service director Paul Sheppard demonstrates proper spaghetti sauce stirring form at the ambulance society’s annual spaghetti feed at the Elks Hall on Oct. 17. It was a smashing success, pulling in 360 people - over 140 more than last year! The supper raised about $2,800, which Shepperd says will go towards training equipment.

Oil clean up will take months
Clean-up of the 1,200-barrel oil spill near Slave Lake continued last week. Most of the ‘gross oil’ had been recovered, but the work will go on for weeks, and quite likely won’t be finished until next spring.
Trans Canada Trail project not dead, just in limbo locally
As far as the Alberta Trailnet Society is concerned, the Trans Canada Trail project is alive and well. Never mind that it’s years behind schedule and that nothing is going on in the sections east or west of Slave Lake.

Jessica Proulx shows off the stack of chips that she picked up for a straight flush at the Slave lake Rotary Club’s Texas Hold ‘Em Poker Night at the Sawridge Inn and Conference Centre Saturday night. The hand was enough to win Jessica the prize for the highest hand - a miter saw. Winner of the grand prize was Ken Cardinal from Wabasca.

Wolves defang Vipers but get bitten first
Trevor Ahola scored twice to give the Slave Lake Wolves a 5-3 win over the Sexsmith Vipers last Saturday. Wolves net minder Michael Kashuba worked some ‘me wise magic’ to stop 38 shots compared to just 10 saves by his Sexsmith counterpart.
Saints win one, lose one
The Midget AA Slave Lake Saints met Athabasca last Friday and Westlock on Sunday. The Saints split the two win a win over Athabasca and a loss to Westlock.
