Wolves defang Vipers but get bitten first

Trevor Ahola scored twice to give the Slave Lake Wolves a 5-3 win over the Sexsmith Vipers last Saturday. Wolves net minder Michael Kashuba worked some ‘me wise magic’ to stop 38 shots compared to just 10 saves by his Sexsmith counterpart.
Was there a reason for the vast discrepancy in shots on goal throughout the game? The Wolves ability aside, the local boys earned 18 penalties for the hour compared to just 10 for the visitors.
Al Beaulac, Dustin Ghostkeeper, and Shawn Gramlich had two penalties apiece while Nick Plourde and Michael Zinyk each sat out for three.
Even with such a strong love for the penalty box, Beaulac, Gramlich, Zinyk all had assists to help seal the Vipers’ fate.
Sounds all rosy, but the win came less that 24 hours after the Vipers handed them a 4-3 loss.
Kashuba was not tested nearly as much in the first game, stopping just 19 shots while Vipers goalie Ryan Boyd contended with 35.
Vipers captain Shane Campbell beat Kashuba twice while Joey Bilodeau and Darwin Payou each scored one apiece.
Al Beaulac, Kiel Ching, Kyle Pichette, Aaron Franklin, and Shawn Gramlich all earned two trips to the penalty box for the Wolves.
