The Midget AA Slave Lake Saints met Athabasca last Friday and Westlock on Sunday. The Saints split the two win a win over Athabasca and a loss to Westlock.
Saints captain Alex MacIsaac duked it out with Athabasca’s Joran Hall as they each scored three times. Mark Geddes of the Saints tipped the scales with a goal in the second period. MacIsaac scored the game winner. The final score was 4-3.
Like their older counterparts, the Saints spent a lot more time in the penalty box than their opponents. Darcy Masoda spent six minutes in the box for the Saints.
The luck ran out when they met Westlock two days later. No one Westlock player out shone his teammates, but they worked hard and outscored Slave Lake 5-2. The puck dropped at 3:05 p.m. and Martin Clausen put Westlock on the board after one second had elapsed!
Perhaps that was demoralizing for the Saints who went on to take more penalties and did not get on the scoreboard until the end of the second period. Slave Lake captain Alex MacIsaac and Cody Burke each netted one for the Saints.
Colin Kazakoff of the Saints earned five penalties alone, one being a game misconduct.
