Derrick Whiteskycloud performs a palm reading at the first annual Alternative Health and Wellness Fair that took place at Northern Lakes College last Saturday. Event organizer Edith Mckenzie said that a few presenters could not make it at the last minute but the fair still boasted 46 booths. Approximately 450 people visited the fair to browee for information or to seek the services of practitioners like Whiteskycloud, who bills himself as a shamanic healer, clairvoyant medium, spiritual counsellor, and paranormal investigator.

When Ian and Elaine Cope bought a riverside property on the old Smith highway, they believed they had bought paradise. Having spent the majority of their adult lives in large centres like Calgary, the new homestead was not just a place to breathe a little easier but also a place to raise a family.
'Shadow' population study to be unveiled this week
This week (Nov. 3) at the Northern Mayors and Reeves Conference in Slave Lake, participants will find out about shadow populations in northern municipalities. These are the sometimes large numbers of workers – many living in camps and hotels – who are unaccounted for in government per capita funding calculations.

The Winterhawks’ Ryan Dierker didn’t score, at least on this shot. However, he had a decent night getting three goals against the Hinton Heat in their Sunday contest at the Arctic Ice Centre. Saturday’s game against Fox Creek had to be put off due to bad weather.

The Slave Lake Winterhawks’ first home win of the season wasn’t exactly a thing of beauty. Both teams struggled to fit into the new zero-tolerance rules that the league adopted this year.
Wolves big on Sunday
If it wasn’t for Sexsmith on Sundays the Slave Lake Wolves wouldn’t have any wins this season. They made it three Sunday wins over the Vipers in a row on Oct. 29, topping the hometowners 6 – 5 in a stunning third-period comeback.
