A young couple got married over the weekend but they didn’t do it at a church or a garden. They got married in the Rex Theatre.
Jenni Olson and James Lafleur tied the knot in front of invited guests and served them popcorn and slushies. The newlyweds are both eager to try new and interesting things and neither of them ever heard of a wedding in a movie house.
To make things even more interesting, Jenni’s dress is a costume of sorts, reminiscent of the Elven princess Arwen from The Lord of the Rings.
The two wanted to tie the knot on Halloween but the fates didn’t allow. Perhaps the fates will allow a long, interesting union.

Pumps on Main, the local convenience store and gas bar in Smith, was again broken into. Security cameras recorded a male enter the store around 2:00 a.m. on Oct. 27. He got in by breaking the safety glass in the front door. The suspect didn’t take much - perhaps a case of pop and some fireworks. He never went behind the counter at all. Talk about a late night hankering for soda and explosives!

If it’s Christmas parties that interest you, here’s something to consider. Bonnie Nash tells us she’s organized a night of ‘food, laughter and dancing’ at the Sawridge Inn and Conference Centre on Dec. 8. There’ll be a comedian in from the city, Bob Beddow by name, a DJ service, plus a great meal – all for 50 bucks.
What brought this on, she says, is that she was looking around for something to do in the way of a night out for her staff, and none of the usual options were available for one reason or another. So she went ahead and booked the room, booked a comedian, booked a DJ and lined up three community groups to help out with driving, coat checking and bartending, and Bob’s your uncle.
Bonnie says anybody’s welcome, whether it’s individuals, or couples or whole offices full of people looking for a night out together. Tickets are available at The Business Factory.

There was a rash of vehicle break-ins at the college in Slave Lake last week, we heard. In broad daylight. A word to the wise: don’t leave anything valuable in sight in your car!
