River low: siphons going in
Lesser Slave River dropped last week to the point where only a trickle of water was running over the weir. That triggered an application by the M.D. of Lesser Slave River to install siphons over the weir, which they expected to be in place by last Sunday.
“We’re also looking at opening the channel,” M.D. Director of Field Operations George Snider told The Leader last week.
Northern group endorses Lyle Oberg
A coalition of northern and aboriginal leaders wants to influence the voting for the man to replace Ralph Klein as leader of the Progressive Conservative Party. Led by Lesser Slave MLA Pearl Calahasen, the group met several times with the eight leadership candidates, and on the weekend announced its choice.

First loss of season for Winterhawks, 5 - 3 to Legal Vipers
The Slave Lake Winterhawks didn’t have quite the right stuff in Legal on Saturday. They fell 5 – 3 to the upstart Vipers and into third place in the NCHL North Division standings.
Wolves lack bite
It doesn’t pay to show up unready for a game against a team like the Dawson Creek Jr. Canucks. That’s what the Slave Lake Wolves did on Saturday, and before they knew what hit them they were down 5 – 1 and playing catch-up.
