Here’s a fella walking across Canada to raise money to help find a cure for cancer. Trevor Redmond sent a letter to The Leader recently telling of his progress and asking our help in publicizing his cause. At the time he was recuperating from the flu in Ottawa, having trekked from B.C. to Ste. Hyacinthe Quebec. He figures he’ll be in Halifax in about a month. We hear Trina Vercholuk of Tolko was off in New Orleans on a humanitarian mission last week with ‘Team Tolko’. They were working with the organization Habitat for Humanity, helping people build themselves houses to replace the ones that Hurricane Katrina destroyed last year. Tolko sent 10 employees from its various operations down for the week. Maybe Trina will have a story to tell when she gets back and maybe we’ll have it for you.

Last week’s story about the Chinese Moon Festival was missing a bit of important information, that being that Mr. Pingbo Chen of Jimmy’s Kitchen was the sponsor and facilitator of the event. It should also be noted that the photo that accompanied the story was taken by Lulu Zhao.

Harry Bartlett called last Thursday to say he’d just sold the last of the Rotary Club $10,000 cash raffle for the new library. The draw is on Nov. 28. The Widewater Athletic Association’s Grey Cup pool is sold out too. Thanks to all the people who bought and otherwise helped out, says Harry.
The Rotary’s next raffle is on the Superbowl, two bucks each.

It’s taken a while, but pump prices for regular gasoline are virutally the same in Slave Lake as they are in Edmonton. Ed Mason from the 630 CHED newsroom says the average price in the city (as of Nov. 17) is 84.9 cents per litre. The wholesale price fell to 51.4 cents from the day before. The wholesale price for low sulfur diesel went down half a penny to 52.8.
We’re all wondering if a recent fall in oil prices will ever be felt at the pumps.
