Land claim settlement 'very close', says Bigstone chief
The chief of the Bigstone Cree Nation has a message for the band membership. Land claim negotiations that have been going on for years are nearing completion.
Census results delayed a month
This was news local municipal councils were hoping not to hear. But there it was, on CBC Radio on Feb. 12.
‘Statistics Canada has postponed the release of its population census results by one month after facing a number of problems during the data collection,’ said the report.

A bagpipe procession seems to be becoming a tradition at curling bonspiels in Slave Lake. On Friday, local pipers (r. to l.) Ross MacDonald, Ryan Gordon and Wade Horton led the ladies around the rink in the opening ceremonies. Directly behind them is the Nadine Verschoor rink (including Laurie Alton, Barb MacIntyre and Shelley Keck), which ended up winning the ‘A’ Event over Wendy Hutchison.

The Slave Lake Winterhawks are in an unfamiliar position after two games in the second round of the North Central Hockey League playoffs. They lost both games in Lamont on the weekend and now must win three straight if they hope to retain their league championship.
