A late spring could spell disaster for area lakes
David Derosa is the area fishery biologist for Alberta Sustainable Resource Development (SRD) and he says things are looking grim for some of the smaller lakes under his surveillance. Certain factors, that alone can wreak havoc on a lake, have aligned to make life difficult for fish.
Happy Year of the Pig
Slave Lake had its first-ever Chinese New Year celebration on Saturday, Feb. 17. Around 75 people gathered at Jimmy’s Kitchen to mark the start of the Year of the Pig.

Winterhawks push Lamont to fifth game
Down two games to none in their best-of-five playoff series against the Lamont Bruins, the Slave Lake Winterhawks had to win on the weekend to stay alive. They did, with a 10 – 7 victory on Saturday and an 8 – 6 win Sunday.
Wolves make Grande Prairie work for series win
It’s fun to watch when the underdog puts the fear of losing into the favoured opponent. That’s what the Slave Lake Wolves did on the weekend to the Grande Prairie Wheelers in Northwest Jr. Hockey League playoff action.
