Canada geese started arriving in Slave Lake on Mar. 23 and congregating near the open water at the head of Lesser Slave River. A local bird expert says these are probably the ones that winter in southern Alberta, looking to get a jump on the best nesting territory.

Flatbush car theft leads to end of inter-provincial crime spree
A string of thefts that started in Saskatchewan and moved to Alberta came to an end last Wednesday when Slave Lake and Westlock RCMP tracked the culprits down in a home near Dapp.
Truck dumps methanol in Hwy. 2 ditch
Emergency services raced to the scene after a tanker truck hauling methanol left the highway on Mar. 23, spilling some of the deadly chemical.

Bantam Sabres capture league championship
The Slave Lake Bantam ‘AA’ Sabres capped a brilliant season with a league championship last week. Playing in the second game of a best-of-three series with the Westlock Warriors on a Tuesday night, the Sabres won by a 5 – 2 count.
Saints win six of eight in tournaments
Slave Lake’s Bantam ‘B’ Saints finished off their 2006/2007 hockey season with a couple of tournaments. They won the first and came second at the other.
